| What does a Structured Cabling Package Give Me? |
Having it assures you of the following
| What is a Structured Cabling Package? |
| It is The Highest Quality Phone and Cable System available consisting of 3 Phone and 2 Cable locations standard in every home. It also includes an additional Category 5e wire run from the base panel to each phone outlet. This wire is left un-terminated at both ends for future networking. These wires will be there if the customer would want to network the computers in their home. |
| Why is it considered "The Highest Quality"? |
The package includes high quality On Q Telecom and Video modules to distribute signals throughout the home on dedicated lines
to every outlet. These high quality phone and cable lines are described below.
| What if the customer wants more cable and phone locations? |
| Not a Problem. Adding additional phone and cable jacks are handled just as they always have been. Remember, each additional phone outlet will also giver the homeowner a un-terminated network pre-wire. There is an additional charge for each jack added. The customer will typically indicate locations of all jacks at selections. |
| Can cable and/or phone outlets be added after move in? |
| Most likely but not guaranteed. It will also cost a lot more then adding them now, before the home is built. The actual cost is determined by a hourly labor rate. Wires may be exposed on the outside or inside of the home or drywall damage may be necessary. |
| How can I have four phone lines at each outlet when there is only one hole in the wall plate? |
| In each "hole" in the wall plate is jack that is connected to the CAT5e cable. Each Cat5e cable has 8 individual copper wires (4 pairs). Each phone number requires one pair of wires. Using the AnyLine Adapter (see data sheet) turns the one "hole" into four. AnyLine adapters are available from Superior Security and Sound, Inc. |

| What Does the Network Package Do? |
| It allows computers in the home to be connected with each other so files (data and stuff in the computer), programs, printers, scanners, etc. to be shared. A main benefit is that the homeowner can "plug" his or her notebook computer into various jacks around the home and be connected with his main PC. This allows him or her work in all rooms of the home without being tied to his or her computer. It also eliminates having to deal with floppy discs and assures all files are synchronized. |
| Why would I want a Home Network? |
| Up until last year the only advantage a home network provided homeowners was the ability to share files and printers between multiple PC's. However, since the increased usage and popularity of high speed cable and DSL modems home networks have become most desirable. Here's why. With a router, high speed Internet connection (cable modem or DSL) and home network the homeowner has the ability to have multiple family members online at the same time without tying up a phone line. With proper configuration this can all be done with only one Internet account. |
| Can any computer be hooked up to the Network Package? |
| The homeowner can only answer this question. All computers on the network must have a network card and the proper software installed first. It is not as simple as bringing a computer home from the store and plugging it in. Most customers will be familiar with this and know exactly what to do. If they don't then they had better consult a computer expert first. Superior can provide the names of companies who specialize in networking. Networking is fairly simple and is getting easier with each new generation of computers. We simply provide the highway and intersections for networking to work. |
| To share a cable modem, is a cable TV outlet required at every computer location? |
No. The most common way to share a cable modem (and DSL modem) is to "build" a home network.
The customer needs to place a telephone/data jack in each location they would
like a networked computer. They then would need to add a Network Hub Package.
This package adds the data plug at each phone location (up to 8) The customer then places a cable modem near or
in the Termination Center. The cable modem typically gets connected to a Router/Hub, and then the
network wires connect to Router Hub. The computer simply plugs into the network outlet in the room.
